![]() If you don't have Quake II, then it's well worth the $5 to play through a simplistic yet classically fun singleplayer FPS. If you have an RTX card and Quake II (you need own the game to drop in the assets), then this is a no-brainer way to check out what your fancy new RT cores can do. However, the constant eye-candy combined with the fun fast-paced gameplay of Quake II had me playing through the whole game again. I've already recently played through Quake II, so when I got an RTX card, I was just planning on checking out the shiny raytracing for a few minutes and moving on. Admittedly, they probably overdid it a little with many of the textures and shaders that are almost cartoonishly shiny, but it makes sense as a tech showcase. In contrast to most mid-ranged Chromebooks however, the Pinebook Pro comes with an IPS. The Pinebook Pro is meant to deliver solid day-to-day Linux or BSD experience and to be a compelling alternative to mid-ranged Chromebooks that people convert into Linux laptops. The realistic shadows, reflections, and scattered light make this game from 1997 look like a boomer-shooter-revival from 2019 with retro-style assets.
